Job Description:

Under minimal supervision, design, fabricate and assemble custom prototype mechanical/electromechanical systems and devises for research manufacturing applications.


Essential Job Duties:
  • Design, fabricate and assemble custom mechanical and electromechanical devices and systems to customer requirements or to meet the specific needs of various customers.
  • Apply knowledge of machining, sheetmetal fabrication, welding, brazing, soldering, mechanics, shop math, properties and characteristics of all materials (metals, plastics, wood adhesive, etc. to achieve this end.
  • Work from blueprints, rough sketches and oral instructions.
  • Maintain shop equipment in good working order.
  • Discuss project/system design with clients (Ph.Ds, Technicians, external site customers etc.) and maintain open dialogue concerning inprogress modifications.
  • Function as a member of project design team from conceptualization through implementation.
  • Work with employees to train in the operation of equipment...
  • Interface with vendors in course of prototype development and material orders.
  • May be required to perform preventative maintenance, quality assurance and repairs of mechanical and electromechanical research apparatus/equipment.
  • Maintain records of cost for projects, time sheet and material and design sketches.
  • Additional duties may be assigned.
  • May perform other duties as assigned

Skills, Education and Experience:

  • Must have completed a four year apprenticeship program or equivalent combination of education and experience, e.g., trades school, vocational school, work study program, plus five years' experience as a firstclass machinist, experimental machinist or model maker
  • Expert in operation of all machine tools, power tools, hand tools, jigs and fixtures likely to be found in a machine shop. Expert in the safe operation of all machine shop equipment, e.g., lathe, milling machine, power saw, grinder, power and hand tools to their maximum capabilities on a wide variety of materials including metals, plastics and woods
  • Knowledge of general machine shop safety regulations as required by OSHA and MSDS literature
  • Good knowledge of mechanical assemblies and capable of troubleshooting problems, disassembly and reassembly of the same
  • Good working knowledge of metals, plastics, adhesives, woods and fasteners
  • Knowledge of ACAD/Mechanical Desktop (automatic computer assisted design) is a plus
  • Ability to operate CNC machine
  • Good knowledge of welding, sheet metal construction and general building construction as it pertains to device/system installation is helpful
  • Must be able to work in research laboratory environment, consulting with customers and designing solutions to problems in place
  • Must be cognizant of manufacturing standards and materials for industry applications
  • Good verbal communication skills

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
