The candidate will contribute following a disciplined Stage Gate process, proceeding from concept development through implementation and commercialization phases of R&D programs.    The successful candidate will apply strong analytical skills to develop solutions to a diverse range of complex industrial problems associated with the design, fabrication, installation and operation of mechanical equipment as well as associated systems including a variety of cryogenic components.  The candidate will also identify and lead development programs, participate as a technical expert on development teams, and participate in the identification, design, commissioning and operation of equipment and systems on both a lab and commercial scale.    The candidate will actively learn about the applications and needs of the Turbomachinery & Systems Group clients, so as to generate and recommend technology advancements for consideration as it relates to new products, new features, new processes and new markets.  Contribution to the intellectual property strategy of the group is a critical part of the job function.  The candidate must be a hands-on self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision. He/she must possess problem solving skills and the ability to be innovative.  In this role, you will work with both internal and external customers.  Thus, excellent communications skills are critical for success.   KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:   Turbomachinery & Systems Team Responsibilities Identify, support and/or lead projects focused on reducing capital and operating costs related to mechanical and other process equipment within a typical cryogenic air separation facility.  Work on cross functional teams with other R&D groups as well as engineering and operations organizations to manage the development and commercialization aspects of technology programs.  Develop and maintain project plans using current Project Management tools and methods Participate in cost estimation of proposed concepts Work with external suppliers to evaluate technologies and provide recommendations for incorporation into Praxair facilities Responsible for various aspects of testing and performance evaluation of new technologies Provide technical support to operating facilities on an as needed basis.   Qualifications  Salary and Job Level Commensurate with Experience Basic: MS Degree in Mechanical Engineering 3 years or more experience with mechanical equipment Knowledge of process equipment and systems Excellent analytical, communication and presentation skills Ability to travel up to 20% of the time (domestic and international) Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills   Preferred: PhD Degree in Mechanical Engineering 5 years experience with process related equipment Track record of innovation in an R&D environment Hands on experience operating, testing and/or commissioning mechanical/process equipment   18002804
