Sr. R&D Combustion Engineer

POSITION QUALIFICATION
Summary:
The Senior R&D Combustion Engineer will be a member of the Praxair Combustion R&D team. In this role, he or she will lead the identification, development, demonstration and commercialization of new combustion technologies of commercial value to Praxair. This will require working closely with other R&D personnel as well as other organizations within Praxair and external customers.
The successful candidate will also be expected to stay abreast of new technology developments in their field of expertise, and actively contribute ideas for new programs. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, the ability to self-start with minimal direction, strong organizational and project management skills, safety focus and experience in industrial process development including combustion technologies.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Leading research and development programs through stage gate process towards commercialization
Developing heat and mass balances and performing advanced kinetics, heat transfer and flow calculations
Testing or demonstrating new technologies in Praxair labs or customer facilities
Evaluation of experimental data and development of the scientific understanding
Writing reports and making recommendations to management as to future directions of development programs
Presenting results to customers and at technical meetings
Identifying intellectual property opportunities and preparation of invention disclosures
Supporting field demonstrations and commercialization of combustion technologies worldwide
(JOB LEVEL AND SALARY COMMENSURATE WITH EXPERIENCE)
Basic:
Master's Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline)
5 or more years of industrial R&D experience in combustion, process, heat transfer or petrochemical engineering
Demonstrated experience leading development projects and small teams
Ability to work in industrial plants and on elevated platforms
Ability to travel up to 30% of the time (domestic and international)
Preferred:
Master's or Doctorate Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline)
8 or more years of industrial R&D experience in combustion, process, heat transfer or petrochemical engineering
3 or more years of experience leading projects
Industrial equipment startup and optimization experience
Experience working in the Industrial Gas industry
Experimental skills in combustion
Experience with oxy-fuel combustion
